Play Dough

Filed under: Uncategorized — kmwhite at 5:02 pm on Friday, October 21, 2011

Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to make play dough for our classroom. Play dough is a wonderful tool that helps children to develop finger control and coordination. I am posting the recipe to make at home with your family. Read the recipe together and have fun!
Some ideas for play dough at home:
*Make the play dough into animals and shapes and tell a story about the animal you have made.
*Keep talking with your child about what you are doing with the play dough, such as rolling, squishing, forming, flattening, pressing, it is a great way to build vocabulary.
*Form numbers and patterns with the play dough

Play dough Recipe
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
1 Tablespoon cream of tarter
1 package Cool-Aid
3 Tablespoons oil
2 cups boiling water
Combine dry ingredients. Dilute Cool-Aid in boiling water and add oil. Add water solution to dry ingredients and stir.(caution: you may find it easier to mix dough with hands but it will feel very hot to the touch!)

Allergies in Kindergarten

Filed under: Uncategorized — kmwhite at 11:46 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Please be aware that our school and kindergarten classrooms strive to be a nut aware community. There are presently children that experience severe allergic reactions to a variety of nuts. NOT ONLY PEANUTS. When parents are purchasing items for your child’s lunch, please be aware and conscious of this concern. Sometimes products that appear to be nut free have indeed come in contact with nuts or have been processed in plants that also handle nut products. Please be aware of the allergy concerns we have when preparing food at home. We do not permit nut spreads at school. Thank you very much for your support.
